Meet Dr. Shojaei

Dr. Dr. Ali R. Shojaei B.Sc., D.D.S., M.Sc. (Ortho), F.R.C.D. (C)

People often ask me, “Why do you love being an orthodontist?” The answer is simple: I get to create confidence and positivity in people every single day. There’s something truly powerful about a smile—it’s often the first thing others notice, and it has the ability to transform how we see ourselves and how the world sees us.

Through orthodontics, I help people put their best face forward—literally. Crafting confident, beautiful smiles allows my patients to express who they are with pride. It’s incredibly rewarding to witness that transformation—not just in their appearance, but in their self-esteem.

Outside the Office

To stay inspired and sharp, I immerse myself in teaching and learning. I’ve taught surgical orthodontics in the graduate orthodontic program at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Dentistry for many years, alongside running a private practice in Aurora, Ontario, where I’ve proudly served patients for over two decades. My professional journey has also taken me to Nova Scotia and even farther abroad, where I’ve participated in dental missions to underserved communities in the Dominican Republic.

Excellence in orthodontic care is a responsibility I take seriously. Staying at the forefront of scientific and clinical innovation is part of that promise. My team and I are actively involved in continuing education, attending orthodontic conferences, AI integration workshops, and study club meetings to ensure we’re offering the most modern care possible.

Beyond the clinic, I contribute to the profession by speaking, presenting seminars, and publishing in respected dental and orthodontic journals. I also currently serve as an expert in professional liability matters and as Treasurer for the University of Toronto Orthodontic Alumni Association.

Education

My journey began at the University of Toronto, where I spent 11 enriching years earning a Bachelor of Science (1994), a Doctor of Dental Surgery (2001), and a Master of Science in Orthodontics (2005). I also completed a hospital residency at Sunnybrook and Women’s Hospital, followed by an orthodontic mini-residency at Harvard University from 2001 to 2002—a privilege that shaped my clinical and academic approach.
